Works as a measurement technician at FIG Metall

What does a typical working day look like for you?
– I operate a measuring machine, so I always start by checking the machine. It needs to be cleaned and dusted, and I make sure everything is in order so that I can measure with the precision required.
I also check which fixtures are to be used for measurements that day and prepare them. Then we focus a lot on ensuring that our operators can operate the measuring machine themselves and run their own parts. I move around a few different departments, and right now I’m also out in the tooling department helping out. When a measurement result comes up that isn’t correct, I go to the operator and help them with what can be compensated for or corrected.
How did you end up at FIG Metall, what’s your background?
– I started doing work experience here when I was at school. FIG Metall had come to the school to introduce themselves and I fancied spending my last two or three months of school here. Straight after school finished, we signed a contract and I’ve been here ever since. I started out in the cutting department, operating machines and handling beams and other fun stuff. Then, quite quickly after that, I was given the opportunity to become a toolmaker, which I’ve been doing for four or five years now. And now I’ve just been given the opportunity to become a measurement technician.
What do you appreciate most about FIG Metall as an employer and your role here?
– I like the opportunities I’ve been given here. I’ve always had the chance to develop myself further, try new things, and constantly test my knowledge and learn new skills. If you show that you can take responsibility, you’re given plenty of opportunities.
What challenges do you see in your role?
– The challenge is ensuring production runs smoothly, making sure the part our customer receives is correct according to the drawings and the customer’s requirements.
What motivates you most in your professional role?
– It’s having a satisfied customer. Getting feedback and doing a good job.
What motivates me in my job is getting feedback from the customer, both good and bad, but of course you always strive for good feedback. Simply put, a satisfied customer.
What is important for you to feel happy in a workplace?
– My colleagues! Being able to laugh with them, have a bit of a nudge and a banter. Having a fun, relaxed working environment where everyone is striving towards the same goal.
How does FIG Metall stand out in the industry?
– What sets us apart from our competitors is our machinery. We have virtually every machine for every kind of job and can also offer craftsmanship and soldering. We can offer a complete solution and don’t just have to produce a single component from a complete part. That’s what makes us the customers we have.
How would you describe the corporate culture at FIG Metall?
– Here at FIG Metall, we’re given a lot of freedom under our own responsibility. The managers trust us and don’t micromanage as long as you show that you take responsibility and can produce the right part.

– If I were to describe FIG Metall, it’s a company for the driven individual, someone who wants to develop on many levels and wants to be involved in seeing a part through from start to finish.
Works in order processing and production planning at FIG Metall

What do you do?
– I work in order processing and production planning. I handle all orders received from customers and schedule them into production together with another colleague.
What does a typical working day look like for you?
– I come in in the morning and have a cup of coffee – that’s a must. Then I sit down at the computer and go through the week’s issues, check any new orders that have come in, enter them into the system, and reschedule production if we haven’t been able to stick to the production plan.
How did you end up at FIG Metall, and what’s your background?
– I started here straight after finishing my studies. I studied business development and entrepreneurship, and after that I was job-hunting and applied for loads of roles. Through a contact, I ended up here at FIG Metall. I started in production before moving up the ranks to where I am today.
What do you appreciate most about FIG Metall as an employer and your role here?
– What I appreciate most about FIG Metall is the freedom in my role; as long as you’re working and acting in the company’s best interests, no one stands in your way. I appreciate the opportunity my manager has given me to make my own decisions and do what’s best for the company. Here, we all have a bit of freedom as long as you’re aware of what’s ultimately good for the company; then it’s fine to act accordingly.
What challenges do you see in your role?
– The challenges vary, and I come across new ones every day. The best part is when I’ve solved the problems that arise each day.
What motivates you most in your professional role?
– I’ve developed here. I started in production and have worked my way up, and I can see that there are opportunities to develop further. The day-to-day work of keeping the customer happy also motivates me, as does ensuring I resolve their concerns and sort out their problems as quickly as possible, delivering on time and delivering the right product.
What is important for you to feel happy in a workplace?
– What is important for me to feel happy in a workplace is, first and foremost, the working environment. Good colleagues and the company as a whole – that it is a good, stable company. We have a great many people working here who started in one role and have been able to develop and progress internally. Something we’re constantly working on is developing our own staff, giving them the opportunity to develop and grow as individuals. That’s what I’ve experienced ever since I’ve been here at FIG Metall. We invest heavily in our staff and in developing them internally.
How does FIG Metall stand out in the industry?
– FIG Metall invests heavily in new capital expenditure and new, challenging, complex products that, in most cases, other companies wouldn’t even want to attempt. We are clear about investing in complex machinery to be able to produce complex components with skilled staff.
How would you describe the corporate culture at FIG Metall?
– The corporate culture is very good. We stick together, and many of us even spend time together after work. There are groups that stick together both at and outside the workplace, and we have a strong sense of unity among all employees.
Describe FIG Metall in three words.
– If I were to describe FIG Metall in three words, I would describe it as modern, secure and unafraid to take on challenges.
