About Fig Metall

FIG Metall is a modern manufacturer of advanced components specialising in turning, milling and wire EDM. Put simply – we specialise in machining.
You’ll find us in Söderby, just outside Gnosjö. We’re still in the same location where we started in 1937, but the building has grown and been refurbished. Our 4,800 m² facility houses 18 CNC-controlled lathes, 10 CNC-controlled multi-operation machines, 2 five-axis Intergrex machines and 4 wire EDM machines.

History

In 1937, FISKEREDSKAPSINDUSTRI JOHANSSON & C:O AB – now known as FIG Metall AB – was founded by Bertil Johansson, Erik Johansson, Emil Hageberg, David Hageberg and Helge Svanholm. From the outset, sport fishing was the main area of business, focusing on lures, wobblers and spinners. The ‘Black Bee’ spinner, well-known in angling circles, was developed and manufactured at FIG, amongst other things. Over time, the product range expanded and the company began manufacturing soap boxes, bicycle locks, sand shovels, tweezers, windscreen wipers for tractor cabs, bag hangers, etc. The list of products manufactured at FIG is extensive. Contract manufacturing also took place on the automatic lathes, which laid the foundations for the FIG Metall we see today.

In 1991, FIG was split into two companies: FIG Metall and FIG Sportfiske. FIG Metall ceased the manufacture of fishing tackle and focused entirely on contract manufacturing.

In 2005, FIG Metall AB was acquired by Swemix AB. Since then, we have invested more than 50 million in new machinery and equipment, creating the modern factory you see today.

Please come in and visit us. Take a look around our museum, learn about our history, see the products we have manufactured and the ingenious ways in which they were made. Then step out of the museum and into our modern workshop. The products are new, the machinery is up to date, but the knowledge is embedded in the walls.

Since 2005, we have been part of the Swemix Group, a strong local owner in Gnosjö.
